There’s nothing quite like a Kentucky Burgoo–a stew of meat, poultry, and vegetables spiked with bourbon. It’s a southern tradition that is outstanding. It is one of those dishes that improves when made ahead and reheated.
Old-time recipes call for adding game such as rabbit and squirrel, but I use a combination of beef, chicken, and ham with excellent results. The ingredient list may be long, but it’s worth the effort. I like to use Rebel Yell or Jack Daniels in the burgoo, but you can use any good bourbon or sour mash whiskey.
